Artist's Statement
I love to eat and I’ll eat just about anything. Ask someone who knows me; they’re bound to have a tale of what, how much or the manner it was ingested. If I had to pick, my favorites are beer, sushi, hamburgers and candy… especially candy.
Candy is great. I love it best when it is mass produced and easily accessible. One piece of a brand is like another since they share the same ingredients and only tactile qualities change when the pieces are made in different sizes. You don’t eat it to survive and you don’t have to be hungry to eat it either. You don’t need to eat it yet you will crave it. Its presence is a reminder that life is more than just survival on a day to day basis. This series is a celebration of all that candy represents- a reminder that life itself can be very sweet.
