 Catherine Doocy- Artist's Statement

I invent landscapes from memory; subconscious visions that materialize on paper or canvas. A few brush strokes, stains of color, or smudges of charcoal can conjure up a field, a cloud, or a day. I pause often while working to witness the transformation of lines and colors.

I use landscape imagery but my focus is on more abstract elements, such as movement, gesture, mood, line, and atmosphere. My paintings document the magic, the energy, and the transitions involved in the creative process. My work is about painting, not landscape; about illusion not representation; about drawing not twigs and branches.
