| I enjoy painting SURREAL MINDSCAPES because I don't have to be concerned with how things really look. It gives me the freedom to experiment with altered perceptions, distortions and anything that does not exist in the real world. In Surrealism there are no rules, anything goes. I mostly use oil and alkyd paint on canvas. I paint abstract thoughts and merge them with surreal dreamlike imagery without knowing what the end result will be. Since most of my work starts spontaneously and evolves over a month or two, there are always surprises and puzzles to be solved. Whenever I paint one thing, I must counter balance it with something else to round out the composition. This puzzle solving continues until the entire painting clicks as a whole. Then I know the painting is finished. I usually have six to ten paintings in the works at one time which are in various stages of completion. I switch from one painting to another to allow drying time between the layers of paint. This process also keeps me from getting bored with any one painting and helps keep my ideas fresh. | ||
| I want to leave my mark behind when I leave this level of existence and my mark happens to be on canvas. It is proof that I was here and in a strange way it validates my existence, at least I hope so. The fact that my paintings will be around after I'm gone is exciting and it is one reason that drives me to be as prolific as possible. | ||
| Each of the paintings will tell you a story and there is not any one specific interpretation. In fact, most may be read on many different levels. The most successful ones will tell a different story each time you look at it. What they mean to you is what they mean. The paintings are an escape vehicle. They are a catalyst for you to use your imagination, relax, day dream and have fun. | ||
